CITB Achieving Behavioural Change (ABC)
Course Programme
The CITB Achieving Behavioural Change (ABC) programme is a one day course conducted in the classroom. The training course provides training on the benefits of adopting behavioural change for all contractors who worked on construction and civil engineering projects. This course provides you with an understanding of how behaviour, attitude, communication and engagement with employees can help prevent potential accidents from happening on site.
Course Content and Overview
- Understanding the legal duties of employers and employees
- Define hazards, risks and control measures
- Knowing the causes of accidents
- Understanding the link between attitude and behaviour
- Understanding the costs of poor safety performance
- Understanding the benefits of good health and safety performance
- Put ABC into practice using the STAARR and TASK card
- Successfully complete the course assessment.
Entry requirements
For this course there’s no entry requirements. This course is suited for delegates of all ability levels. Please note that this course is only conducted in English and therefore it is paramount that students are able to communicate in English.

Course Materials
Any course material required will be provided for students on the training course.
Assessment
The assessment delegates will take will be a multiple-choice exam which will require students to answer 9 questions that relate to the subject areas covered from the training. These 9 questions have a maximum of 25 answers. You’re required to get 15 out of 25 (60%) for the Site Workforce and 20 out of 25 (80%) for Management and Supervisors.
Qualification and Renewal
Your CITB Achieving Behavioural Change (ABC) certificate is valid for five years. Successful delegates should retake the course after 5 years in order to obtain their qualification.
Tutors
The trainers assigned to deliver your Achieving Behavioural Change course is accredited by CITB as an approved trainer for this course programme. We work with only those trainers who have significantly delivered to a high standard over a number of years and receive exceptionally positive feedback.
Grants Available
For those companies who are registered with the CITB for Grant and Levy purposes, you will be able to claim (subject to CITB approval) £50 per day of training for this course. This would equate to £50 that can be claimed for the CITB ABC Course.
Grant Process: Please ensure your delegate is provided the Company Name, Registered Address and CITB Levy number. The student is required to provide these details during their class on their personal registration form.
The CITB will process the grant using these details directly with the registered company post completion of the course.
In House Training
This class is available on what is known as in house training. We are able to arrange a trainer to come to your company premises to deliver the class on dates of your choosing. Please contact us for further details if this is a suitable option. Please note minimum class size for a premises visit for the CITB Achieving Behavioural Change (ABC) course is 6 students.
